Newberry Springs, CA
Arrived in California and stopped at the Bagdad Cafe on Route 66. The movie "Bagdad Cafe" with Jack Palance was filmed in 1987 at this cafe. This stop was real life Route 66 and one of the most memorable for us. We were greeted outside the cafe by "precocious" 5 year old Haalo Pruitt, being raised by her grandmother known as "Boss" and owner of the cafe. Haalo was so excited to see us late in the afternoon and ran inside to get menus for us. She wanted to take our order which she neatly printed after having me point to the items on the menu. Upon Haalo's suggestion, I had the buffalo burger which she said was "her favorite." The burger was not only delicious but Haalo made the experience more enjoyable as she decided to talk with us and scenarade us by singing the "Star Spangled Banner" as we ate. Meet our new friend Haalo Pruitt! 😊
